TopLine Federal Credit Union in Maple Grove will host a series of financial empowerment seminars this fall called "Taking Control of Your Finances." The first one is called "Developing a Stellar Credit Rating" and it is on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
"Your credit score is the numerical value that measures risk that lenders use. Your score ranges from 300 to 850," said Vicki Erickson, assistant vice president of marketing at TopLine in Maple Grove.
Erickson advises people should check both their credit report and credit score annually.
"The most reliable place is www.myfico.com or you can check with any of the three credit bureaus," said Erickson.
While credit reports are free, there is sometimes a nominal fee to get your score.
